The Miami Heat beat the LA Clippers 117-116 in overtime on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at Intuit Dome, and Klay Thompson's dagger three with 1.0 seconds left decided a game LA once led by 20. Bam Adebayo scored 35 on 14-of-20, Thompson finished with 30 on 8-of-17 from three, and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 27 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Darius Garland scored 26 and kept the Clippers ahead through most of overtime, but 18 Clippers turnovers (20 including team turnovers) and a 12-6 hole on the offensive glass erased a 43-point second quarter. The Clippers fall to 1-7; Miami moves to 3-5.
How did the Clippers lose to the Heat?
Turnovers and second chances, then one late three. The Clippers shot 48% from the field and 37% from three (16-of-43) while Miami shot 43% and 25% (10-of-40), so shooting did not lose this game. Miami won the offensive boards 12-6 and points in the paint 54-40, forced 18 Clippers turnovers against 12 of its own, and got 35-30-27 from Bam, Klay and Giannis (92 of Miami's 117). LA's largest lead was 20. The Heat closed regulation tied at 107-107, then Thompson's Giannis-assisted 23-footer with 1.0 left in OT made it 117-116.
Game flow: Clippers vs Heat by quarter and OT
First quarter (MIA 33-24). Miami punched first. Bam and Klay set the early tone, and the Heat took a 9-point lead into the second despite trailing LA in field-goal percentage for much of the night.
Second quarter (LAC 43-19, LAC 67-52 at half). The Clippers' best half of the season to date. LA outscored Miami by 24 in the period, stretched the lead as high as 20, and carried a 15-point cushion into the locker room on 48% shooting and a barrage from deep. Brook Lopez and the wing defense finally slowed Giannis' early touches, and Garland's creation started to stack.
Third quarter (MIA 26-20, LAC 87-78 after three). Miami cut the hole from 20 to 9. Bam (26 through three) and Klay (22) accounted for 48 of Miami's 78, with the rest stuck at 30. LA went 13-of-33 from three through three quarters (39%) against Miami's 8-of-27 (30%), but the Heat won the period and the game flipped from blowout to knife fight.
Fourth quarter (MIA 29-20, 107-107). Giannis scored Miami's last stretch of the third-to-early-fourth push and cut a 20-point deficit to 87-83 by 10:49 of the fourth. Lopez answered with rim protection and two Garland-fed buckets (Lopez finished 20 on 8-of-11), and LA still led 100-91 at 5:04 with Giannis on the bench. Once Antetokounmpo returned, Miami erased a 9-point lead down to 1. With 10.8 seconds left in regulation, Giannis grabbed three straight offensive boards (and a team rebound sequence) after a Garland lost-ball turnover, then made both free throws for 107-106. Rui Hachimura split free throws after a Spoelstra challenge overturned the call, tying it 107-107 with 2.7 left. Bam's 12-foot fadeaway rimmed out at the horn.
Overtime (MIA 10-9). Garland kept LA ahead: free throws to 109-107, a 27-foot three (Lopez assist) for 112-109, a 19-foot pullup for 114-112 after Klay had tied it at 112, and a 9-foot floater (Strus assist) for 116-112. Bam answered with a 6-foot fadeaway to 116-114. Max Strus missed a fadeaway and a driving layup late; he fouled Giannis with 3.3 seconds left. Out of the Heat timeout, Thompson drained a 23-foot three with Giannis assisting at 1.0 for 117-116. Kobe Sanders' heave missed at the horn.
Team analysis: shooting, rebounding, turnovers
Shooting. Clippers 43-of-90 (48%), 16-of-43 from three (37%), 14-of-20 at the line (70%). Heat 43-of-100 (43%), 10-of-40 from three (25%), 21-of-26 at the line (81%). LA won the efficiency battle and still lost. Miami's free-throw edge (21 makes to 14) and paint edge (54-40) covered a 15-point three-point deficit (48 points from deep for LAC, 30 for MIA).
Rebounding. Miami 50-47 overall and 12-6 on the offensive glass. That 6-board gap produced the regulation-tying sequence and multiple second-chance looks for Bam and Giannis. LA's 41 defensive rebounds were fine; ending possessions with one shot was not.
Turnovers. Clippers 18 player turnovers (2 team, 20 total); Heat 12. Steals went Miami 10, LA 7. Our Keys to the Match asked for 15 or fewer Clippers turnovers. That mark was missed, and the timing hurt: Garland finished with 6 turnovers, including a late-regulation lost ball that fed Giannis' offensive-board sequence.
Paint and transition. Heat 54 paint points, Clippers 40. Fast-break points were even at 17 each. The paint gap is the scheme cost of a Lopez-led wall that can contest Giannis at the rim but cannot always rebound next to him.
Player breakdowns
Darius Garland (LAC): 26 points on 10-of-14, 4-of-6 from three, 7 assists, 6 turnovers. Garland was the Clippers' best creator and nearly the OT hero. His three to 112-109 and floater to 116-112 put LA on the brink of ending a six-game skid. The six turnovers and a team-worst -16 are why the lead never stayed sealed. On a night LA needed 15 or fewer giveaways, the starting point guard alone had six.
Bam Adebayo, Klay Thompson and Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIA): 35, 30 and 27. Bam went 14-of-20 with 10 rebounds and 4 assists and scored the OT cut to 116-114. Klay's 8-of-17 from three included the dagger; he finished +21 in 35 minutes. Giannis posted 27-14-6 with 3 blocks, 4 offensive rebounds and the late-regulation free throws that put Miami up 107-106. Davion Mitchell added 11 points and 10 assists. Ninety-two of Miami's 117 ran through Bam, Klay and Giannis.
Brook Lopez and Rui Hachimura (LAC): 20 and 21. Lopez shot 8-of-11 with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks and was the mid-fourth answer when LA still led by 9. Rui had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and split the free throws that forced OT. Derrick Jones Jr. added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Keaton Wagler chipped in 11 on 3-of-4 threes. Max Strus finished 3-of-11 (3-of-9 from three) with 5 assists; his late OT misses and the foul at 3.3 were the last LA possessions before the dagger.
How did the CNI prediction hold up?
Our Keys to the Match pick was Heat 117, Clippers 113. The winner was correct and the Heat score was exact. The contingency flip (Clippers 115-112 if LAC kept turnovers at 15 or fewer and took 40 or more threes) did not trigger: LA had 18 turnovers and went 16-of-43 from three (volume cleared 40, but turnovers did not clear 15).
What's next for the Clippers?
The Clippers (1-7) host the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. PT (9:00 p.m. ET) at Intuit Dome. The takeaway to carry in: a 43-point quarter and a 20-point lead mean nothing if LA hands back 18 turnovers and six offensive boards. Fix the giveaways first; the Pelicans will punish the same leaks.
